In a season that first started with a six-game winning streak after losing its second game, the Indianapolis AlleyCats (9-2) secure a playoff spot with a win against Detroit Mechanix, 40-20.
The AlleyCats lead all throughout the game. At halftime, the score was 17-9. John Jones tied for second on the team with four goals and 17 players all scored at least one goal. On defense, Rick Gross continued to add to his Ds with three in the game.
The 40 goals scored in a game, broke a franchise record of 35 goals. The previous record was set in 2014. Jones said the record was nice to achieve.
“We still have a lot of work to do,” Jones said. “It’s nice to feel good about this win but we still have tough games ahead.”
For the AlleyCats this is the first time, since 2014, they have reached the playoffs. In 2014, they lost to Madison in the Midwest Division Championships. Jones said making the playoffs was a goal for the team earlier in the season.
After this loss against Indianapolis, the Mechanix will face Chicago Wildfire on June 24. Meanwhile, the AlleyCats will face Madison Radicals at 7 p.m. on June 30 at Breese Stevens Field in Madison, Wisconsin.
