On Our Way, a Logansport 8-Ball American Poolplayers Association team, won the 2021 Local Team Championship to advance to the World Championship tournament in Las Vegas.

The Logansport team was captained by John Banter, won 8-5 against Peru’s Bad Boys, captained by Joe Purnell. On Our Way played in the 2021 World Championships and finished 769th out of 1,094 teams.

The players on On Our Way’s team were John Banter, Gary Frakes, Bill Pugh, Rick McCullum, Carrie Frakes, Kristina Weese and Kyle Banter. Christian Frakes was listed on the roster but didn’t play enough matches for the postseason.

Most of the players for On Our Way played in their first world championship, like Weese.

“I started playing in the APA in 2016,” Weese said. “I have always wanted to go ever since I started.”

In the APA for playoff matches, the first team to get to eight points or win three games wins the match.

In the final championship match, John Banter, a skill level No. 6, played against Braxton Doss, a skill level No. 6. Both needed to win five games and On Our Way was up 6-4. Both teams had won two matches.

Doss had won two games and then Banter won the third and fourth games to tie the match. Doss won the fifth game to give him a 3-2 advantage against Banter. Banter won the sixth and seventh games to send On Our Way to Vegas.

“Braxton shot the best game ever,” Banter said. “He’s improving into a great pool player.”

Earlier in the match, Weese got a shutout victory to put On Our Way up 3-0 after the second match.

“It was the sweetest deal right there for her to get a shutout,” Banter said. “That’s what we needed to keep us going.”

In the third game, Gary Frakes earned two points while his opponent got one. On Our Way was up 5-3 and had won two games.

Kyle Banter played in the fourth game and lost but got a point for On Our Way.
