Ball State Coed Water Polo team found themselves facing two competitive teams today at the Akron Tournament.
In the first game against a mixed team of Pittsburgh and Ann Arbor, the team lost 16-7. Sophomore Ethan Jones had two scores and one shot on goal. Junior Paul Nicholas lead the team with six shots on goal in the game. Nicholas said a few of them were pretty bad shots.
“I wasn’t on peak performance today and it was the first match of the tournament,” Nicholas said. “I think I will be a little less jumpy for that second match.”
Nicholas hoped that his team will continue to beat Case Western, like they did at the last tournament.
“Definitely we got a chance against them,” Nicholas said, before the match. ” I think we can continue our reign against them for this second tournament.”
But in the end, the team had to play against this familiar opponent. In the rematch, Case Western won, 14-9. Jones lead the team with three goals and senior Keaton Osborne also scored one.
On goal, junior Joe Starr had tremendous saves to keep the game interesting.
” I have a lot of fun, being in goal and helping my team out as much as I can,” Starr said. ” I’m just trying to keep the goals out and keeping us in the game.”
The water polo team will return to action in the spring.
