The Ball State men’s ultimate frisbee team (10-13, 4-4 EPC) placed sixth out of eight teams in the Eastern Plains Conference tournament. Team captain Nik Risser said the team had a good second day.
“We obviously did not make it to Regionals,” Risser said. “But the ending day we really accomplished what we wanted to do.”
On Saturday, the Wizardz finished third in Pool B with a 1-2 record. Freshman Jaden Jarrett had three goals and 20 catches. On defense, freshman Justin Hess had five Ds.
On Sunday, the team won against Louisville, 13-9. Then lost to University of Southern Indiana, 13-9. In this game, the Wizardz had trailed at halftime by 8-1. Freshman Jullian Thomas said this game was the team’s best.
“I mean the first half of it was pretty trashed, but we all shook it off, like real quick and the second half was amazing,” Thomas said.
After being down by seven points, the Wizardz were within three points of tying it.
“We found that fire and came all the way back,” Risser said. “It made it a completely great game.”
In the end, the Ball State did not move onto Regionals. Risser said it was a great season.
“This is a year where we had a lot of young guys step up and we had to lose a lot of vets,” Risser said. “This season was a great transition season into hopefully a better one in the future.”
